CASE STUDY: How to grow a successful practice

By Darren Beake on June 19, 2018 in About VetIT

One of first customers to benefit from the new combined offering from NVS and VetIT was Animals 1st, a Scottish practice with branches in East Lothian and Midlothian. We sat down with CEO John Darlington at the Animals 1st practice in MacMerry to discuss the merits of the service and how it has helped his efficiency, as well as saving him money.

John’s first business was an online vet pharmacy, during which time he realised that there was a need for more veterinary practices in the locality. John now has three branches that specialise in heart scanning and orthopedic treatments. From day one, he recognised the need for technology based products from NVS to help him make appointments, carry out online stock ordering, provide clinical histories and give out-of-practice appointment information.

John explained, “I am sure NVS and VetIT have been the perfect remedies to help to safeguard my future growth. In partnering with VetIT, NVS was able to offer me an all-in-one service to ensure that the entire IT needs of a typical veterinary practice like mine would run smoothly. With VetIT, account management, calendars, dispensary, pricing, invoicing and reports can all be kept in one place and be accessed remotely – an essential virtue, for instance, when visiting disabled clients for home treatments.”

Administratively, John is now able to keep tighter control of creating and moving appointments, delegating tasks between vets and nurses, and any member of staff can view the cloud-based work schedule. He even believes that the efficiency and user-friendliness of the system will help him retain a loyal staff base. Financial benefits are numerous too. Daily invoices can be raised by named staff, cashflow can be monitored and debt management can be more tightly controlled. The VetIT process can also offer more cost competitive product pricing, a distinct advantage for cost-conscious clients.

VetIT is easy to install. Once up and running, there are no costs for updating servers, with virtually no downtime to disrupt the working day. John has also found it easy to use the software for his own marketing and text messages. He’s just carried out a successful campaign targeting health issues in small senior animals.
